Research

Desert Mountain Medicine in conjunction with Dr. Kent Clement, professor for the Outdoor Recreation Leadership program at Colorado Mountain College is conducting a research project on the retention of wilderness medicine knowledge and skills.  We are assessing all wilderness first responder (WFR) refresher students.  This can include anyone with a current WFR, WEMT or Wilderness Upgrade certification.   Participants are asked to take a brief survey about their profession, wilderness medical training and types of injuries and illnesses they encounter in the field.  This will give us an opportunity to acquire information about our students in the outdoor recreation industry. Next, groups of students will be assessed on their wilderness medical skills by participating in a hands-on scenario together.

We have already started obtaining great information since we launched the project in May 2010 and we will be presenting interesting preliminary results at this year’s AORE conference in Keystone, CO on November 12 at 9:45am.
